Hi, I just wanted to post my experience with the linux drivers. I'm using the DVB-C Card and got it working in Kubuntu 8.10 by following the new tutorial but using it for the 2.6.28 Kernel. The Video Performance in Kaffeine is a bit sluggish, but tuning worked like a charm.

Hi, I have a FireDTV C/CI. I tried the new tutorial. If I run:
„sudo git-clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kern ... 94-2.6.git firedtv-2.6.27

I get the following connection error:
Initialized empty Git repository in /usr/src/firedtv-2.6.27/.git/

git.kernel.org[0: 130.239.17.7]: errno=Connection timed out

git.kernel.org[0: 199.6.1.166]: errno=Connection timed out

fatal: unable to connect a socket (Connection timed out)

But I can go to http://www.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ker ... 4-2.6.git/ (web browser).

Do you have any suggestion.

Same remark as the other post: motherboard is RMA, so no desktop for the moment.
Once it's back, I'll check if anything has changed.

I found a solution for my git problem. The firedtv kernel patches are under http://user.in-berlin.de/~s5r6/linux1394/firedtv/. With that you can patch downloaded kernel sources. So you can get firedtv running without git.

I still have a problem with MythTV(I don't think that the firedtv driver is the cause, but perhaps anyone has a solution for me). If I watch TV, my screen is split horizontally and I see the video twice.

I'm kicking my ass right now. :D I've been trying to get my firedtv-c box working for very long time and it has worked for a moment but stopped working. I have asus p5b with via chipset firewire? or something like that. Now i got some old audigy and it has a firewire port, I popped it in and everything works including conax. This in Kubuntu Karmic Koala with kernel 2.6.30 rc2 or something, anyway with the first alpha. I'm using my great FireDTV box in linux at last. :D

Thanks for the excellent work! Really useful for us Linux newbies. 30 years in the computer industry, but still haven't learned Linux. VMS, on the other hand...

But I digress.

Could somebody point me to where I can learn how to use Kurelid's patches (from http://firesat.kurelid.se/) in conjunction with your method of building? I've never tried building the Linux kernel, although it seems pretty sraightforward.

The reason I ask is that I get cable from ComHem (in Sweden) and all their channels are encrypted. Without CI support I'm still screwed. I'm just waiting to be able to use Myth, rather than M$'s crappy software.

Thanks in advance,
//Claes

I also want to thank for this very useful tutorial. I'm a Linux newbie too, and otherwise I wouldn't have tried it out, but it looks very easy.

It worked: updating from jaunty 9.04 kernel 2.6.28 to 2.6.30. During the building process of the kernel, there appears a message that it is recommended to rebuild the nvidia xserver, so I said "yes" to it, and in this process, the programm aborted. First thing I thought was that kernel 2.6.30 isn't build at all, but after restart, I could choose it in GRUB loader. Only problem: the nvidia settings do not work, screen resolution is very bad. To my surprise, FireDTV works well with Kaffeine, but I was not able to rebuild the nvidia X server.

I hope I was able to make clear where my problem lies, and I also hope someone can help me here with this issue. Thank you very much in advance!

I've heard this issue from someone else too.
For the moment, it's rather busy so not much time left for Linux-stuff

I'll try to find some time to figure these issues out and rewrite my howto a bit.
